Post-modernist Paul Rand said “Don’t try to be original—try to be good.” Nothing is original anymore—everything is derivative of things that already exist. We live in a REMIX culture. Yeezy is the master of remixing music. Andy Warhol was the master of remixing commercialized entities. And the list goes on and on. The point is, we shouldn’t preoccupy ourselves with the prospect of being completely original because that is unnatural and unrealistic. Our generation should focus on establishing ourselves as active thinkers, innovating, and reconditioning the ample material is already available to us. Original is unrealistic but remixing is radical. That is GOOD.
